Did I hear a rumour right that the club may be considering a GT12 class at the club, I think this may welcome more/new members which I turn will bring in new funds to the club, plus I would possibly start my youngest out in this class.

Hmmmm, not heard anything and I wouldn't have thought so, gt's use foam tyres which is a no no at donny.

Not that I'm bothered, but why are foam's banned. Never known the technical reason's. I have had conversations with Paul H about a mini class for beginners, when numbers were really low, but he seemed dead against that. So good luck with a GT12 class. I too think it would boost numbers, but it would mean one less heat for TC as you could not run the two classes together and there is only a certain number of heats you can run in the time we have.

Paul, I can't see an issue with the foam tyres apart from the retain the tyre additive but don't imagine that they would need it and so it wouldn't damage the carpets, with regards losing a heat if there are less than 10 GT12 drivers it would just mean having 3 heats and a final for all classes. But I do think the club would benefit from the extra income GT12 would bring.

Not sure of the official rules for gt12 but would imagine they run for 6 or 8 mins per heat.....this then causes issues for marshalling like wise tc drivers feel they are being robbed and there for should pay less. Don't want to put a downer on your idea but seen it happen before.

GT12 class run for 5 minutes. Regarding the foam tyres, the addative that they now used is water based and leaves less damage to a track than the oil based we use on our tourers.
What we find at SYR is the GT12 provides the required traction for the first heat of tourers, to the extent we can run sorex 32jb tyres from the off.
Any club these days have to look at how they can survive, to keep going as a non profit organisation for the enjoyment of its attendee's or members. Without the GT12 class SYR would not exist as the touring class becomes more expensive to have the ability to compete. But when a venue is restricted to time, and can only accommodate a certain amount of drivers to provide value for money, I think we will find DTCC will stay with a touring class only unless times really do become impossible to function on TC alone.
