Doods - Howd i go about choosing a new motor. Is it basically just compare rpm per volt? Main reason for me thinking about changing is lack of braking - howd i check how good a motor is at breaking? I cant see any figures which show this?

Alsorts can effect braking, Gearing primarily, speedo, motor etc....are you setup on the speedo and tx to get full brakes?

If you are wanting more breaks Neil just turn the timing down on your motor, its probably preset from the factory unless youve changed it, turn the timing to 0 degrees and it will increase the breaks on the motor but lower the top speed.
Also do as browny says and turn the breaks up on the transmitter and speedo if possble.
Only reason to get a new motor for me is to go faster. hehe

esc is at max - 80%? tx is at 100% although it does go to 120%? I will try this next dime at donny to see what it does. FDR is 4.8 using 30T pinion which is close to losi's recomendations for the 13.5t. Motor timing is on high - either 6 or 8degs.
So from what yr both saying to increase brakes i'm going to loose top end speed with current setup.
So a faster motor with smaller pinion/standard timing would keep the speed and improve braking over my current setup.

To increase your brakes, your gonna have to use a smaller pinion in my opinion. And sacrifice top end speed. 4.8 is going to require alot of effort to stop it tbh. Id have thought the esc would have gone to 100%?

Not sure what speedo your using Neil but with a timing advance speedo you trend to use around a 19 to 22 pinion. My brakes lock the wheels up if pulled too hard..........

ok gunna reduce pinion for next meeting and see how it goes. Motor and esc are losi xcelorin. tbh i think my motors abit weedy for a small pinion. RPM per Volt = 2360
Probably only way to keep top end speed and braking would be a better motor. Just had a look on demon and there's a big difference between my motor and a descent one. novak ballistic = RPM per Volt = 3300 tekin redline = RPM per Volt = 3500
